The New Bourse Istanbul (BIST) - "worth investing"

THE NEW BOURSE ISTANBUL (BIST)

Today, Borsa Istanbul A.S. (the new abbreviation is BIST) has begun to operate as the sole exchange entity of Turkey and combined the Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB) and the Istanbul Gold Exchange (IAB) under one roof. The new logo of Bourse Istanbul will be the Ottoman tulip, a traditional Ottoman symbol for Istanbul.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said at the opening gala dinner "we aim to make Istanbul one of the most important 10 finance centers of the world" and "we cannot think of any other finance center that could compete with Istanbul".

No wonder that the new slogan of the new exchange entity will be "worth investing".

In a written statement Babacan stated that the New Capital Markets Law had been published in the Official Gazzette on December 30, 2012 and according to that law, "Borsa Istanbul" was established as an incorporated company (Turkish: Anonim Şirket = A.Ş.).

The founding capital for Bourse Istanbul is 423.23 million Turkish Lira (TL).

The chairman of its new board will be Ibrahim Turhan, while Osman Akyüz, Mustafa Büyükabaci, Seyit Ahmet Iskin, Hüseyin Kelezoglu, Isinsu Kestelli, Kamil Attila Köksal, Talat Ulusever and Meliksah Utku will be the new board members.

    Dear Tarick Nafeh,

    Thank you. Allow me to repy to your request as follows:

    "B" stands for "Borsa" [engl. "Bourse"];
    "IST" stands for "Istanbul".

    Thus, the abbreviation "BIST" stands for "Bourse Istanbul".

    Kind regards
